Saudi ports: which gateway fits your cargo

Saudi Arabia's commercial ports are run under Mawani (the Saudi Ports Authority) on two coasts: the Red Sea — led by Jeddah Islamic Port, the country's main container gateway — and the Arabian Gulf — led by King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, feeding the east and Riyadh (with a rail link to Riyadh Dry Port). Around them: Yanbu and Jubail for industry, King Abdullah Port as a fast-growing Red Sea container hub, and Jazan, Duba and others in supporting roles. Picking the right port is a trucking-cost decision as much as an ocean-freight one.

The ports that matter for importers

• Jeddah Islamic Port — largest container gateway; serves the west, Makkah/Madinah and national distribution

How to choose: the two-question test

First: where does the cargo end up? Western region → Jeddah; Eastern Province → Dammam; Riyadh → compare Dammam+rail against Jeddah+truck (Sanad Global prices both — congestion and season move the answer).
